English & Language Arts Teacher BlogThis blog is for secondary English, ELA, and language arts teachers filled with lesson plans, humor, product recommendations, teaching ideas, tips, and tricks and much more! Hello, fellow teacher superheroes! Back for another week of touching hearts and changing lives! But First, A Chuckle! Helpful Stuff In the recent past, I have made some minor tweaks in my life/routine and the they have increased my productivity & sense of self-efficacy by at least 10X. It has also provided me with less stress and more time to relax! Here they are:
Recommendations “A day without laughter is a day wasted.” -Charlie Chaplin What makes a good laugh a great laugh? Humor with very relatable topics! The hilarious video clip shared above is from a show called “Mr. D” which centers around the hilariously lazy, underachieving, delusions-of-grandeur-having, ironically over-confident and severely under-qualified teacher & gym coach Mr. Gerry Duncan, played by former real-life-school-teacher-turned-comedian Gerry Dee. Trust me, this show gets funnier and funnier with each season. If it doesn’t get you hooked right away, give it at least 3 episodes to win you over. Every teacher to whom I have recommended this show absolutely loved it! No sitcom writer can really write to the teaching profession unless they’ve experienced it, and Gerry Dee delivers every episode! From the smart-aleck remarks from students to the unique and sometimes awkward interactions between the teachers and staff themselves, this show is funny to a non-teacher audience, but to those in the classroom it strikes an uproarious chord! Here are some of the best clips from the show: Mr. D. shows his best friend Bill how to grade papers Mr. D. A Little Inspiration Remember Teachers, our ripples of kindness, inspiration, and motivation are never-ending. The way we interact with our kids influences them to interact with others in their lives in a similar way. We are humans. We have off days, but in those moments when we are in the “flow” of things, those are what make those days amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing —I see you. I’m right there with you. Let’s keep fighting the good fight and make it a great week! Keep changing the world! Charlie with Shining Scholar Education P.S. Consider joining our TPT Affiliate Program for 25% commissions here! We are excited to be back in 2023 with a revamped passion for our emails to not only show you our great products but to grow as teachers and as people together! Happy new year, by the way! We are SUPER excited to share some teacher tips and recommendations to make all our lives a little easier along with some humor and inspiration. Helpful Stuff Check out this incredible video on how to use Google more effectively and efficiently! Recommendations I think we are all a bit of a self-improvement junkie (that’s why we are all here, lol) and as such I have found an amazing podcast! It’s called the Live Happy Now Podcast and you can check them out here. They interview people like Dr. Christine Carter, Margaret Greenberg, Dr. Drew Ramsey, Gretchen Rubin, Deepak Chopra, Stacy Kaiser, Dr. Rick Hanson, and many more. Without being toxically positive, where they ignore the negative completely, this podcast has been a key ingredient in my morning routine, where I pump myself up before my wife and two toddlers wake up and get my mindset ready to serve my students, my family, and of course —YOU! Check it out and let us know what you think! It would also really help the podcast crew out if you would take a screenshot and share it on your social media! Tag them and us on Instagram @shining_scholar_education and Facebook as Shining Scholar Education! A Little Inspiration As always, thank you for all you do day in and day out, in and out of the classroom. I truly believe that collectively, we are all making the world a better place, one class period at a time, one student at a time, one day at a time. Let’s also remember to be kind. To one another. To our kids. To their parents. And, to ourselves. Please free to forward this to any teachers you feel might benefit from this email. Remember, I’m just an email away :) Make it a great day!
