5/27/25: a reflection strategy students actually enjoy, end-of-year mindset shift, and more!

Helpful Stuff

It’s that time of year when we’re really coasting on fumes, so hopefully this helps!

Reflection Stations.

Instead of one big reflective writing assignment, break it into 3 simple stations students rotate through in small groups. Here’s a version that works great in ELA:

1. The Reading Wall — Students write down their favorite book, story, or character they read this year—and why.
   
   
2. The Growth Table — They answer: “What’s one writing skill you got better at this year?”
   
   
3. The Gratitude Corner — They write a short thank-you note to someone who made class better (you can even deliver them anonymously!).
   
   

Each station takes about 5–7 minutes, works with any grade level, and fills the room with reflection, connection, and a surprising amount of joy.

Bonus: It gives you a few quiet minutes to breathe while still keeping students focused and engaged during those “Is it summer yet?” days. 🌞

Here’s a great quote by Tony Robbins:
“Where focus goes, energy flows.”

Instead of pouring what little energy we have into the chaos, let’s center ourselves on what really matters—where we want our energy to go.

Here’s how we can shift our focus during these final weeks:

1. Focus on wins, not gaps – Celebrate the growth. Maybe they’re not writing five-paragraph masterpieces yet—but they’ve come a long way, and so have we.
   
   
2. Focus on presence over perfection – We don’t have to micromanage every detail. Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is just be present with our students.
   
   
3. Focus on rituals over routines – Try student shoutouts, end-of-year playlists, or “final lap” journals. The little rituals are what they’ll remember.
   
   
4. Focus on rest when you can – Even five quiet minutes before the bell can give our brains the pause they’re craving. We’re allowed to choose ease over hustle.
   
   

This season isn’t just about finishing strong—it’s about finishing well.
