A Little Inspiration

Have you ever heard of Tall Poppy Syndrome?

Its origins are believed to be from Australia and New Zealand but the concept is applicable worldwide:

The poppy that grows taller than the rest must be cut down to size.

Those who are successful and have merit are unfairly criticized, resented, excluded, etc. because they are straying away from the norm.

The message here is that needle-movers and visionaries are often met with fierce resistance in proportion to the size of change.

In other words, the more we are trying to change the status quo, the greater resistance we will face.

And of course, some people are never pleased no matter what we do.

Heck, even Beethoven’s masterpieces have thumbs down on YouTube —and we are *probably* not anywhere near that level of genius!

Just remember that we are advocates for our students, we must do right by them and what is in their best interest, regardless of the nay-sayers in the teachers lounge or the non-committers at the staff meeting after school.

You follow your own light for you and for your kids.

This is what a good teacher does.

You all already knew that already I know, I just wanted to say it in case you needed to be reminded. :)
